Description

For 18 incredible hours, tennis clubs across Derbyshire will unite for the Derbyshire Tennis Marathon - an unbroken rally of energy, teamwork, and community spirit. From dawn until late into the night, players of all ages and abilities will fill the tennis, padel, and pickleball courts of Derbyshire, ensuring continuous action in support of a cause that touches so many lives. We’ve all felt the impact of cancer, directly or indirectly, which is why coming together to raise vital funds and show our support is so important! This isn’t just about sport - it’s about proving what Derbyshire can achieve when we stand side by side. Every serve, volley and rally will be a step towards making a difference, showing the strength of our county united for a cause that truly matters. To support the cause we are asking for a £10 donation from each person. You can make your donation via JustGiving here: www.justgiving.com/page/derbyshire-tennis-marathon.

American Doubles

An American tournament is a round robin mixed doubles competition in which participants are initially paired at random. Timed rounds are played on a rotational basis, swapping partners between rounds, and there are small prizes for the players who win the most games overall. Any adult member can play in an American tournament irrespective of their playing level.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a racket four players use a smooth-faced paddle to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infraction. Pickleball was invented in 1965 in the United States. Aspects of the sport resemble tennis and table tennis, but pickleball has specific scoring rules, paddles and court lines. On each side of the net is a 7-foot area (2.1 m) known as the non-volley zone (or the kitchen); a player standing there has to strike the ball before it has bounced. The hard plastic pickleball produces less bounce than a tennis ball. The limited bounce, non-volley zones, and underhanded stroke, with which all serves must be made, combined with hard drive shots and overhead smash shots, give the game a dynamic pace.
